After decades of a very active sporting life wear and tear has damaged one of my hips and it now needs replacing. Aaaargh. And I so young(ish).

I’ve had a problem with my hip for some time but the pain and lack of mobility has, in the past 10 months or so, taken a quantum leap; or more like a quantum limp.

In this past month I’ve been busy having an array of X-rays, and blood and urine tests, and heart monitors and hospital appointments and meetings with the surgeon and anaesthetist etc etc. Tedious but necessary.

I go to hospital tomorrow and the operation is on Monday. My surgeon is Dr. Dre; apparently, he’s a hip hop doc.

I won’t have access to my computer for some time so will miss posting and reading all your blogs.

If all goes well I hope to be back on the air in a couple of months’ time.

Until then au revoir.

  1. Best of luck with it all!
Mother had what she referred to as her hip hop when she was 95 and sailed through it….though she said she felt like killing the physiotherapist!

  2. Bon chance. A bientot.

  3. best wishes, dd, for a complete recovery.

  4. May it all go well. Will miss your blog and your comments on mine. I don’t always respond but I like keeping in touch with a fellow scribe.

  5. Hope it all goes well. My Dad had a hip replacement at 83 and it gave him a new lease of life, and I had a knee replacement 5 years ago and it did the same for me – I’m sure you won’t regret it. You’ll be back blogging before you know it. x

  6. Fl, Elaine, Amanda, Ian et Akela,

Many thanks for your kind comments. I’m off to the hospital in about 10 minutes!

  7. Well, if you were off to the hospital yesterday, then I’ve missed you…. so I’ll be thinking of you on Monday, and wishing you all the very best. Bonne chance and I’ll keep checking your blog for updates.es.

  8. Bon chance (as we Fulhamois say). I’m sure all will go well.

  9. Best of luck DD – you’re in safe hands.

  10. Best of luck, I hope all goes well.

  11. Jools: what an enticing prospect: to have your hipness renewed: good luck, mon vieux, you’ll walk it, best Charles N

  12. You’ll never walk alone, Julian! We’re all with you. I’ve been traveling and missed the last couple of Musical Mondays. I didn’t realize how many more I’d be missing. The weeks won’t be getting off to such a bright start. Hang in there and Walk Right Back….

  13. Today’s the day, then? (I’m late to the party, as usual!) Best of luck DD; hope all goes well.

  14. Not as late as me, Dotterel, though I did wish Dumdad good luck more privately last week. Hope all went well, mon brave, and that you’re back to entertain us with your tales of near-Parisian life – and to trawl good and dodgy music again – very soon.

  15. Second time that’s happened. I do have a Canadian colleague called Mackenzie who named his daughter Mackenzie but I insist I am not colinrandallcolin, just colin randall. And to be fair, she isn’t Mackenzie Mackenzie either since she takes her mother’s maiden name.

  16. Bonne chance DD. Don’t be away too long!
